Discover Marrakech with TripAdvisor travel guides

Majorelle Garden, the product of over forty years of loving conception of the artist Jacques Majorelle is an oasis amid the bustling streets of Marrakech.

Far from the noise and bustle of the souks and the Medina, ease into your holiday with a stroll around the small but intensely local charm, where the paths are shaded by palm trees, exotic plants and traditional architecture point of each corner the blue mosaic Azur and the bright yellow tiles will delight the senses and cactus plants, lotus flowers and water lilies paint a living landscape. The majestic flora nested beautiful birds who call their song as you walk. Streams, ponds and fountains also give the garden a cool, calm, and after taking in the beautiful scenery, you can visit the on-site café, for a tea and your members to rest before continuing your journey.

The Ecomuseum Berbere is located inside the Jardin Majorelle and highlights the Berber culture in the region. It has a general collection of art and artifacts, as well as rotating exhibitions. Once a painter workshop, the small space now offers an intimate home videos describing to the Berber daily life mannequins in traditional dress and jewelry and informative blurbs on indigenous people and their stories. Worth the visit to truly enjoy Marrakech and rural townships that surround it.

A few minutes walk from the Majorelle Garden, the medina of Marrakech is one of the biggest draws of the city and the most grandiose of all the Berber market places in Morocco. A swarming Trade Centre, the souks in the medina sell goods ranging from carpets to leather, pottery, jewelry, spices lanterns, and more. Moreover, snakes, monkeys and donkeys with loaded carts are added to the mix of traffic. Visit to have a mint tea, browse food and traditional goods and soak up the surrounding architecture and colorful stands. Do not forget to bargain!

advice
Beware of thieves in this area, on foot or by bike. Keep your items carefully and be especially careful when you remove your wallet or mobile phone.
As the medina can be a bit dizzying, your hotel can recommend a guide for excursions. Know that often guides work with sellers and take you to specific stalls.
Sellers in shops and stalls can be very aggressive. Feel free to browse, but try not to engage vendors, unless you really want to buy something to avoid a feeling of intimidation.
Know that often take photographs or with an animal (a capuchin monkey or snake) will cost you. Ask the price before time.
Haggling is traditional souks. If you do not like a price after negotiation, feel free to walk away. Often this will get your price down. But trying to be fair!

New president in Venice, Palazzo begins this month

Las Vegas Sands is getting a new president for his band stations.

John Caparella, president of the Venetian and the Palazzo since 2011, is leaving next month, today confirmed the Sands. Sands spokesman Ron Reese Caparella “leaves to seek new career opportunities” but would not elaborate.

Caparella will be replaced by George Markantonis, who recently was the senior officer of the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. It starts at the Venetian and Palazzo March 17, said Reese.

Markantonis has decades of hospitality experience, including 16 years with the hotel chain and Westin resort.

It was once Vice President of rooms and later vice president of hotel operations at Caesars Palace.

The sands parent company, led by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, also controls the properties in Pennsylvania, Macau and Singapore.

Venetian-Palazzo Resort, Las Vegas : Review

you get when you cross the city of Venice with the extravagance of Palazzo Versace, then both Pinard in the Nevada desert? Either the best or the worst of both worlds collide.
Juddery Brand went to Vegas to find out who.

Venetian-Palazzo Resort in Las Vegas five star promotes itself as the world’s largest resort, and if you expect the natural elements such as beaches, which tend to expand the resort properties – this claim appears to be true.

The Venetian was great when it opened in 1999 and now has 4027 suites.

The addition of the adjoining Palace in 2008 meant another 3066 suites, many of them with three or more TVs, fully stocked work centers and a bathroom all marble with a TV of their own (in case those in the living area was not enough).

Sure, it is great wealth – at a price remarkably well – but stay in one of these suites really make you happy? Answer: who cares? If I want spiritual fulfillment, I will go to Tibet.

For thrill seekers meaningless glitz nobody quite like Vegas – and while the exterior of the complex is screaming because the suites are designed with more taste than you might expect.

In my room (like many, but not all, of the others), generous rest area was connected by a few steps to a work area / living / dining “down” big enough for a cocktail.

In a resort of this size, the large lobby occasionally resembles an airport counter uniquely decorated, though the friendly staff has now down to a fine art, ensuring that – if you are happy to continue your own bags – you’ll be in your room before you know it. Just go through the casino (see how it works?) To the elevator.

Other hotel facilities are generally very impressive. The Canyon Ranch SpaClub offers not only spa and fitness centers, but also physical therapy, nutrition counseling, gait analysis for runners and the Canyon Ranch Café, a glam health bar.

Only pools are a disappointment because they are either decorative, making it unsuitable for actual swimming or open a few hours a day – which is perfect if you plan to sleep until noon.

Of course, exercise is probably not the most common recreational activity in Las Vegas, it is churlish to complain.

Vegas is not the beaches, of course, but it is still synonymous with entertainment and crazy-the scene of countless adult Hollywood movies and TV shows, showing enormous fun people gathered around a roulette wheel .

Casino 9755m 2 of the station includes 1400 gaming machines and 139 table games, then you have many choices in how to waste your money.

For all the clichés, Vegas would not be so popular for the holidays if it had only gambling dens. Passage for a conference, I made sure that I took part in some of the animation of the offer, but I did not make any of the things your mother would warn you against.

Although I was there for three days, I did not play, see a drag queen (to my knowledge), watch a tribute show or getting married soon – Elvis or somebody else – and only one Once was a funky nightclub at the Venetian-Palazzo … when I thought the queue was for the show of Blue Man Group. Which is why I had to show my ID.

As well as the casino, the lower floors of the Venetian-Palazzo is a boutique assortment, great restaurants (including Wolfgang Puck’s CUT, grill to Valentino and celebrity-magnet TAO Asian Bistro), nightclubs and popular shows. This is the Pentagon stations.

You could spend a week here without ever going outside. When I mentioned will also a member of the staff seemed surprised: “Why would you go elsewhere? “She was joking, I think, but she had a point.

The two structures, shooting in the skyline, each of the M620 are other buildings anywhere else, but it is The Strip in Las Vegas, where many buildings are outrageously large and bright. Times Square Photo New York, only less subtle.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the Venetian-Palazzo Resort … Well,

Vacation Lessons from the Griswolds

We suspect that you'll never get near the blunders committed by Clark Griswold and his family in holiday movies starring Chevy Chase. Here, some real life lessons Griswolds learned the hard way, so you do not have to!
As summer winds to a close and children head back to school, we can not help but daydream about our next family vacation. And when we think of a family vacation, we can not help but to think and laugh at the antics that Clark Griswold and his family made famous in the 80s classic, National Lampoon vacation. Here's a journey into the past of Griswolds - and some real tips on how not to go as a National Lampoon!

Traveling with Grandma? Be ready ! Nobody really knows why Aunt Edna Griswolds kicked the bucket in the back seat, but it is possible that she forgets to take his medication. Do not forget to renew prescriptions before departure and bring a copy of your prescription, just in case it gets lost on the way.

Take time to enjoy the scenery. Remember when the Griswolds arrived in the Grand Canyon and Clark (aka "Sparky") gave a nod and say "Great! "Before turning around and hitting the road at all? While it was on the run for other reasons (see below), but if tourism is on your agenda, be sure to build in time to see the sights in their entirety.

Road trip? Time for a tune up. Nothing says setbacks quite like a break in the roadside. And no family has suffered setbacks quite like the Griswolds, especially after they missed the sign "Road Closed" and the family car takes off before reaching a bumpy landing in the desert. Before taking the road for the long haul, refresh the basics: change your oil, the liquid fill your wiper and make sure that you are ready for the elements wherever the road may take you.

Fold always a swimsuit. You never know when an attractive pool arises. While Rusty and Audrey were disappointed by the pool filled with algae by the Grand Canyon, Clark could not resist water (or Christie Brinkley) later in the trip. To avoid embarrassing snafus skinny-dipping - and / or your spouse screaming from the balcony - always bring your bathing suit ... and save your birthday suit for the home.

Avoid lines at the theme parks. Remember when the Griswolds finally arrived at Walley World? The lot was empty, the hymn "Chariots of Fire" swelled to a crescendo ... and then came to a grinding halt when they realized that the park was closed .... Closed! All those miles, all for nothing. Do not let this happen to you. There are better ways to avoid long lines - and major renovations. Check site for your destination before you go and consider buying the "express" pass many parks that offer to make sure you will not disappoint your own little Rusty and Audrey.

Do not take for an answer. If there is a great lesson from the Griswolds is not to leave two little letters stand in your way. NO They faced it when looking for directions; Clark faced when they ran out of money and they faced it when they arrived at Walley World. But it did not stop them. And it should not stop you either. This is a good reminder that it never hurts to ask - for the room upgrade for the AAA discount for the free dessert. You may just end up with a private tour of the world Walley - or Fribble a friendly match home. Anyway, it pays (politely) to contest a no.

Refer to company policy. As you know, the poor dog Aunt Edna met her creator somewhere on the side of Route 66. With its wicked annoying barking and biting, it was not much to make friends, but still, no dog should have to follow the way he did. Recognizing that everyone can love your four-legged friend, do your research before you go; Make sure Fido is welcome at the campsite, rest area, hotel, and with family members, you will meet on your way. If it does not, sign him to doggy day camp while taking the open road.

Always bring some backup cash. Or credit. After Clark and Ellen White money was stolen and cards were lost, they were left up a creek. Or, more precisely, on the side of a canyon. The Grand Canyon. Without two nickels call their own. Clark solved this dilemma by sliding the money from the register of the hotel; If the flight is not your thing (and we do not recommend it!), Be sure to have a backup plan. Store 800 numbers, you need to order replacement cards from your phone or, if you wish, you can keep a copy of your card (front and back) hidden in the depths of your suitcase. This way you can be sure that the shot to bring you home is one of a beautiful view, not a rant.

Visit cousins? Plan activities appropriate to their age that will be fun for all. If you recall, visit the Griswolds with Cousin Eddie, family vacations do not always go together. While the children were introduced to the pot and porn, Clark was recalled that Hamburger Helper "did not need any help at all." To ensure that all the band has a good time, plan ahead find local attractions that will keep everyone committed - and trouble.

Confirm your accommodation. After a long day on the road, you need a place to rest your weary head. For our friend Clark and his progeny, there are times the pool was green and the bed was vibrating and pay ...! If that's not your thing, do your homework. Check online reviews, make some calls and ask your social circles (off and online) for suggestions. You'll be glad you when you bite into a soft bed at the end of a long day trip rather than cram in a sleeping bag as Clark and Ellen.

If in doubt, channel your inner Griswold and sing, sing, SING! Whether Walley World theme song or a rousing rendition of "Mockingbird", nothing says family fun as a sing-along ... even if mom and dad are the only ones to sing!

20 things I Learned from Traveling Around the World

Travel for long enough and one day you wake up to realize: it's not a vacation, it's your life.
Over one year ago, I quit my job and decided to travel the world. It was a dream of two 10 years in the making and one of the best decisions I ever made [photo: night train between Belgrade and Sofia].

In the last 12 months I learned a lot about the long-term journey, what I need to be happy and how to survive outside the United States. Many of these things can not be learned at home or in a book, and while reading about them on the internet can get you only so far, many people have asked me to explain how I 'have done.

My trip was not about tourism (although I did that) as much as we have to be somewhere. The simple daily routine challenges can be overwhelming: try to eat, drink and sleep in a place where nothing makes sense, you do not speak the language, and where none of the basic comforts of home are available. It is not easy, but if you want an accelerated personal development, get on a plane.

When I was young my father often said "the hardest part is just out the door. "And that is perhaps the most important lesson of all: it's too easy to be complacent at home and if you are not at least a little uncomfortable, you probably are not d learn something.

If you have already traveled, you can get a kick it. If you do not, here are some thoughts, tips and advice on the long-term travel for my birthday one year of life on the road:

Some stereotypes not stand really, but on average, most people I've met around the world is extremely polite, friendly and helpful. They are generally interested, why I chose to visit their home. They are willing to help if it is obvious that I am lost or in trouble. They will do their best to try to ensure that I have a good stay in their country. And, contrary to what most Americans tend to think (see # 3 below), they often do not know much about the US

I remember my mother confessed recently that I had a great evening in Budapest and stumbled to my apartment at dawn. His reaction was: "But do not worry about being drunk in a foreign country? "

Ha ha, not mom! I have never felt so safe!

The only place where I was violently assaulted was in my home city of San Francisco. Many people I know were robbed under threat, and more than once there were shootings in my neighborhood.

In one incident just a block from my apartment (Dolores Park), a man was shot 5 times and somehow escaped, only for the collapse of about 10 meters from our door. You can still see the bloodstains on the sidewalk.

Obviously, some places are cheaper than others, such as Guatemala, where you can get a room for $ 4 / night. We must be much more careful in Western Europe, where I got a little loose with my budget and spent $ 2,000 / month for two months. But I also spent less than $ 900 in the month I cycled (pushbike) throughout France.

You might be amazed by how cheap some places "dear" can be. The second cheapest hostel I stayed (after Guatemala) was in Berlin (Germany) to € 6 / night (~ $ 7.43 USD). Beer in Prague was cheap or cheaper than any other country, I went to (it was $ 1.43 for 0.5L ultra tourist center of Prague). You can rent a decent apartment in central Budapest for $ 200 / month.

In most places, you can get anywhere pretty much anywhere else, and most of the time it does not take more than a few minutes to understand. Generally (outside the middle of the tourist season in popular locations) I did not bother with reservations or pre-planning transportation routes. I just show the bus or train station and go.

I rode buses for hours in the middle of the jungle of Costa Rica, as well as through BFE in the northern Chilean Andes. There is almost always a group of locals who need to get to where you're going too. And if there is no bus you can still make hitchhiking (this only happened once or twice in my entire trip).

It is revealing to see how some of the poorest countries on earth can still provide the best public transportation in San Francisco.

In places like Europe and Southeast Asia, also have the opportunity to take advantage of the discount airlines like RyanAir and EasyJet. I flew throughout Europe 7 times in two months for less than $ 120 that way.

Law. I guess you missed the 22-hour bus ride where we relayed vomit in the back due to altitude sickness and hangover-induced pisco. Or maybe you did not allow the last 15 hostels to sleep before being blackout drunk is simply not an option. (Sounds glamorous, is not it!)

Planning and logistics also take an incredible amount of time and effort. Most downtime spent in a place where no visits is generally drawn into the search for the next destination, make reservations, logistics planning and through the process of "time budgeting" feared you decide what you can reasonably see in the allotted time (and what to cut).

Overall, it's exhausting, and a great reason to consider traveling slowly (more on that later).

If you move quickly, have no illusions about all the things you're going to "do" in your downtime. Take a good book and a few trips, that's all.

Although I am a solo traveler, I did not spend much more than a handful of days on the only road. This is because you meet people everywhere: in hostels, on buses, trains, airplanes, restaurants, trail-heads, monuments, etc .. If you make a circuit standard trip you will see over and over again the same people (most people do not leave the Lonely Planet itinerary), and it is not uncommon to come in with a large group of people who all go the same way.

It is so easy to meet people that I am often stuck with the opposite problem: trying to get away from everyone. So I love all my new friends I need time to time some service interruptions.

Most travelers are rarely interested in meeting new people. This is one of the major reasons they are on the road. A simple "where you go" has often become a new travel partner for weeks. And when it stops working you simply leave on your own.

This may mean spending too quickly or skip places just for fun ecstasy of arrival again. The results are obvious: less time in places you thought you wanted to see and ultimately burnout. The tendency to try to cram more places in a CARDBOARD REINFORCEMENT planning is often difficult to control.

One thing I have found to deal with this is to have a minimum length of stay: 3 nights in each destination. This is enough time to see the place, relax and get sorted before the next stop. This also means you have to cut some places if you are tight on time. Non La - The culture of women Vietnam

Vietnam An expatriate who is a professor who teaches at the University of Washington, USA, has to think well of the Non La: "I went to all four corners of heaven, have seen many types of hats, helmet type many countries and many ethnic minorities, but have not seen any hats include simple enough shades, dapper, graceful, charming, simple and practical as Vietnam Non La "(Nguyen Thi Hoang Tam , World Magazine, No. 2, June 11-1995).

For the people of Quang Nam, if not made of foil hats are hats and caps two words are used equally, for example: straw hat - straw hats, or hats of felt - felt hats.

Conical looks simple, but to make it truly Non La elaborately and meticulously. Milliner items include: leaves, cones and frames only. Leaves are taken from two plants like palm trees, with small jellyfish that grows in the mountains. One type is called leaf to (name is du provided chlorophyll). Another category is the leaf or leaf hat hold (name is Bodhi provided chlorophyll), soft and thinner. Quang Nam villagers used two days before the leaves and leaf cone to above, depending on the nature leaves: young leaves are used as soft and thin cone; Older leaves are thick and hard ribbed then used to, called robe, ie the day before rainwear.

With other types of young leaf buds, not necessarily fan out, it dried, but do not let it dry too, and took careful board. One "board" by taking a rag soaked, bring them on fire to light up the heat before rub leaves to "board" for leaf veins straight and the road surface is equal to the leaves, hung up each beam segment to holding leaf straight.

Sewing thread fibers leaves usually charge (Hue, the thread used the slope).

Hat frames usually by skilled craftsmen make available expertise, with 16 rims (also different from a cone Hue, especially for the nuns teams, as many as 18 rims).

After the bamboo is soft and small circular Cathedral and a rim-bending puzzle to catch and put no frame rim (Quang Nam countryside known as mold), milliner ranked two, three leaves were framed board available. Roofing foils out, thick roofing sheets inside. Want to make efficient team hats, the whole leaf thick roofing. The Non La man plowing in one day before hometown team usually is this thick thatched hats. Broaching brim must also thinner, to hats team gentle, elegant. Final stage is Non Las: use only the leaves stitched charges very brim. Until finally the coronary coronary largest Non Las, the belt used a big bamboo, with bamboo rims, to clamp leaf in the middle for sure, the leaf from falling out and fiber tear. The garment or hat this final borders, milliner called coronary button. Garments must be careful a long nose, two short noses, actually are, but people in the industry call a mother of two children sewing pattern; a rather strange call, especially with the young people today.

Non La previous day, in addition to shelter, while the very charming ornaments, bears a secret lyrical Vietnam daughters. And perhaps no where is there more charming girl with long black hair shiny shoulders covered with long white flowing dress and hat poem as in Hue shy. Every day after school, of her girls Dong Khanh yore, with both hats undulating forest, beautify the streets and create romantic beauty shoulders Tien bridge spanning the river blue line. These girls are often shy Hue pulled his hat tilted made how soul must wistfully: "How do you know he saw that tilted hat? / In the afternoon clouds with sunny autumn where" (Tran Quang Long). And even characters in folk lyricism was also pleased to say: "The cup is the cup of intoxicating love, / love you Hats weathered top team". Because by the earth and sky that is the wistfulness but please feel free to ask themselves: "Love again stood behind forehead. / Long sunshine arcade or going to rain?" (THDV).

For the villagers of Quang Nam, ivory Non La with many uses. In addition to regular use to rain hat, shading, the farmer or the mother country, each time missing the road, thirst, only to look down river scoop cone using water, extremely simplified. League thirst finished, was waving hats fan to cool a little bit, especially when to travel long distances in the hot summer days. Inside a field, baby buffalo lying under a tree, the plowman uncle too, using veiled hat, so just avoid the sun, just keep insects from disturbed nap peaceful ...

Vietnam Non La, where only the material but also handy secret beauty of Vietnam culture will exist forever, I'm sure of it, although life has changed, modern but affordable too.
